Hi! My name is
Josephine Serrano
When I was 14 yrs old a pottery studio opened up in my neighborhood in NJ and it changed my life forever. I was fortunate to be able to start taking lessons and soon the studio became one of my favorite places to be.
I started working at the studio as an intern and when I was 16, I became an instructor. Working with my hands, creating unique pieces of art, and teaching pottery to others are some of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.
The mental health benefits of making pottery are significant and important- especially for teenagers.
It improves your focus and concentration while allowing you to unwind and unplug from technology.
I find that after pottery, I'm calmer and better able to cope with the stress and anxiety in my everyday life.
It's really fun too!

I created The Teen Pottery Project in 2024 to offer free pottery classes to teenagers because there are many in New Jersey who would benefit mentally and creatively from this experience, but they don't have the resources to take classes.
Pottery is not always accessible to people because ceramics studios are hard to find and studio time, instructors, and materials can be very expensive.
I want to give local teens the opportunity to make pottery without having to worry about the cost.

About the Classes
Pottery classes are free for local teens ages 13+.
Classes are 2-3 hours long and take place after school, during weekends or school breaks.
Our studio is located at Rock Clay Studio in Glen Rock, NJ.
Don't worry if you've never done pottery before-
no experience is necessary!
We only have room for 6 students per class so join my mailing list and register early to reserve your spot!
Classes are made possible by Josephine Serrano
who volunteers as an instructor and Anna-Kari Lejon,
owner of Rock Clay Studio, who generously
provides studio space and materials free of charge.
Any other expenses are covered by donations
from our local community.
